Since I was a kid, I’ve been slightly obsessed with the stars. Astronomy was my favorite topic in Science, and one of my favorite things about living in the country is gazing at the stars. Earlier this year when it was announced that my hometown would catch a direct view of a total solar eclipse I was beyond excited and could hardly wait for the day to come! I had made up in my mind to just take it all in the old fashioned way, with the two eyes I was blessed with. Well the day arrived and I had crazy dreams about missing the big show because I overslept or because it rained. I woke up relieved to see the sun shining. I got ready for the day and made sure my glasses were working like they were supposed to (I won a free pair from our Visitor’s Center through a local reporter Aubrey Jackson!). As the eclipse progressed, we ate burgers, drank wine, and stared at the once in a lifetime experience. When totality hit, I was completely awe struck! More than I could ever imagine it would be. I was lost in wonder, gazing at the sky…then my dad (in his classic persistent way) kept insisting…urging…pestering me to run and grab my camera. I have to say, I am so glad that he did. I captured the most amazing shot ever of the corona (diamond ring effect) as the sun started peeking back around the moon. I’m so happy with it and decided that I had to share it with the world! If you’re interested in purchasing a print, the link to buy is listed below each photo. I hope that having a piece of history means as much to you as it does to me!
